FORT FRANCES, Ont. -- The town of Fort Frances is dismantling a long-standing community gathering place.
Government Dock on Rainy Lake was hit hard in last spring's record flooding. City crews dismantled the dock above the surface when water was at its height.
Then on Monday, the town’s city council voted to remove the underwater docking cribs.
Provincial disaster assistance allows assets to be rebuilt, but not improved. And Fort Frances' Fire Chief says the dock was already damaged before the flood.
