Firefighters received several calls about thick smoke coming from an abandoned grain elevator Thursday night, but it turns out that sometimes looks really can be deceiving.
Thunder Bay fire crews arrived to the old Pool 4 grain elevator on Shipyard Road at around 8 p.m. Initially three pumpers where called to the scene.
Officials say the scene looked much worse than it actually was as firefighters arrived to see just left over garbage burning on the elevator floor.
An official at the scene said it wasn’t the first time they’ve been called to a fire at the grain elevator as it is an area frequented by transients.
The cause of the fire is still unknown
Firefighters also responded to an apartment fire on Leland Avenue Thursday night.
Firefighters who responded to that fire say the blaze originated in the kitchen while the tenant was cooking.
The apartment suffered extensive damage.
