The lottery house will be going on the market, paving the way for a more comfortable retirement for the draw’s winner.

After 14 years of purchasing tickets, Lisa Bennet and her daughter, Miranda Silta, had their names drawn Friday for the Canada Day Fort William Rotary House Lottery draw.

The grand prize this year was a $487,000, 1,700-sq. ft. Silverstone Place home. The ticket was split between two families, so putting it on the market seems to be the best option.

“I was ecstatic,” Bennett said during an interview at her Carl Avenue home. “There’s four of us – that are in on this ticket so soon as I got the call I did a happy dance around the house and then I called my daughter.

“We are going to sell it, because there’s two families involved. My daughter, Miranda and son-in-law, John, and then us and we don’t need the house.”

The lottery house will officially be in Bennet’s possession as soon as the papers are signed over with the lawyers Tuesday.

The home features three bedrooms, two four-piece bathrooms, hardwood floors, granite counter tops, high-efficiency air conditioning and a heating system, which they’ve have collectively decided to sell.

With the extra money from the home’s sale, Bennett said she will be able to retire comfortably in a couple of years and that’s what she’s looking forward to the most.

Bennett added that once the house sells her and her husband, Gord, will be filling their driveway with two new vehicles.

“It’s like winning the lottery. It’s not the $50-million but it feels like it is.”
