THUNDER BAY – A flood warning for many communities surrounding Thunder Bay has been lifted.
The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority on Tuesday announced that the flood warning for the region, which included the Township of O’Connor and the Township of Gillies, had been officially terminated.
The LRCA says that Whitefish River crested overnight and will continue to slowly recede during the day. However, flows will remain high for some time.
The flash flood led to road washouts across the region Monday afternoon and evening, and in Nolalu some residents were forced to leave their homes.
The LRCA is asking that the public use extreme caution when travelling in the Whitefish River areas as many roads sustained damage and may continue to be unpassable.
Residents who experience flooding within their homes are asked to also use extreme caution when assessing damage due to potential hazards.
Residents on wells should have their water tested prior to use.
