LRCA says Whitefish River, tributaries expected to rise; O'Connor, Gillies townships under warning

THUNDER BAY. – The Lakehead Conservation area announced a flood warning for the Lakehead Region, specifically the townships of Gillies and O'Connor. About 123 millimetres of rain has been recorded in the Whitefish River gauge in the past 12 hours. The LRCA release says the river and its tributaries are expected to continue to rise into the evening.

Earlier in the evening local OPP announced they'd closed serveral roads in the Nolalu area due to excessive water. The following roads are closed and police advise motorists to avoid them:

  • 593 Hwy closed south of 588 Hwy
  • 588 Hwy closed both directions @ Leeper Rd
  • 595 Hwy closed at Marks Rd.
  • Old Mill Rd
  • Old School Rd
  • Mercantile Lane- all closed
  • Whitefish river bridge- water level very high
  • Washout on Logan Rd.
  • Drivers urged to avoid the area.
