THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead University Faculty Association has ratified a contract agreement with the Thunder Bay school.

School officials says the four-year deal, which kicks in on Sept. 1, includes a general increase on faculty salaries, enhancements to benefit plans and a voluntary retirement incentive program.

"LUFA is pleased that the two sides used a problem-solving approach to focus on the challenges facing the University, and were able to come to an agreement that both LUFA members and the board of governors were able to endorse,” said Dr. Glenna Knutson, LUFA president, in a release issued on Thursday by the school.

University president Brian Stevenson said he’s pleased the deal got done. “Lakehead University has some of the best faculty in Canada, which is why we reached this strong agreement, together, with our faculty association,” Stevenson said.

“I will also take this opportunity to thank both sides’ bargaining teams for their time, dedication, and hard work.”

Terms of the deal were not made public.
