Conservative Senator Lynn Beyak's controversial statements and suggestions about the status of Indigenous people have cost her a seat on all the Senate committees she's been serving on.

Beyak, from Dryden, recently suggested, among other things, that Indigenous Canadians should trade their status cards for Canadian citizenship and a one-time cash payment in settlement of all outstanding land claims and treaties.

Earlier this year, she became the focus of controversy when she said that "some good" had come out of the residential school system. Beyak was subsequently ousted from the Aboriginal People's committee by interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose.

Now, as a result of her latest comments, she will no longer serve on the Senate's agriculture, defence and transportation committees.

However, Beyak remains a member of the Conservative caucus.
