THUNDER BAY -- The 30-year-old man charged in connection with a hit-and-run that took the life of a Thunder Bay woman will remain in custody until at least Monday.

Ashley Rheal Shabogomik was charged with several offences including criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm after he allegedly drove a stolen truck through a stop sign and collided with the passenger side door of a car travelling down Victoria Avenue in October 2011.

Sixty-year-old Joyce Ryan died at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre because of injuries sustained in the collision.

Ryan’s husband Phil sustained major injuries in the crash.

It’s alleged Shabogomik fled the scene of the incident.

Police arrested him Nov. 14.

Shabogomik appeared in provincial court Thursday afternoon via video and a bail hearing was set for Dec. 3.

Shabogomik, from Aroland First Nation, is also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
