THUNDER BAY -- The preliminary hearing for a man accused in a stabbing death at a north-side apartment complex last spring began Monday.

Randel Wabasse, 23, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Adam Nicodemus Beaver, 46, on May 14, 2014 at Andras Court, a housing complex managed by Thunder Bay District Housing.

The charge followed reports of a stabbing at the South Cumberland Street building just after 8 a.m. on the day of the incident.

A police spokesperson said at the time that a severely injured male had been discovered in the residence and he was rushed to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Twelve witnesses are expected to be called throughout the three-day preliminary inquiry at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.
Wabasse remains in custody.

The incident was the city’s second homicide investigation of 2014.

None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
