Police have a man in custody after a cat allegedly had its throat slit early Saturday morning.

In a release issued on Monday, police say they arrived at a May Street address at about 5 a.m. on Saturday, where they found a man covered in blood and a small black cat with its throat slit.

Witnesses immediately called the authorities and have co-operated with the investigation.

Police said alcohol was a factor.

Thirty-five-year-old Gideon Wapoose was arrested and charged with killing an animal.

The suspect has been remanded to the district jail after making an initial court appearance in the case.
