THUNDER BAY — Officers from city police's traffic unit arrested a 33-year-old man after he attempted to evade police following a suspected drug transaction in the 1100 block of Dawson Road.

Police say the man was allegedly observed engaging in a drug transaction during a general patrol in the area. When officers approached, he failed to comply with their demands and fled on foot. After searching the vicinity, police located a suspect matching the description and placed him under arrest.

At the police station, the man was evaluated by a drug recognition expert, who determined he was impaired by drugs. He was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, resisting a peace officer, failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused appeared in court on Friday and was remanded into custody pending a future appearance date.

It is Newswatch policy to not name people accused of crimes in which it is unlikely we will follow the case through to its conclusion in court.
