THUNDER BAY — A 63-year-old man appeared in court Monday on multiple charges in connection with a marathon standoff with Thunder Bay Police that occurred on Friday.
One of his alleged offences is the forcible confinement of a hostage who was released unharmed about three hours into the nearly-14-hour event.
The standoff in the 100 block of Cumberland Street North began around 8:30 am and concluded about 10:20 pm on July 4, when the man surrendered to the OPP's Tactics and Rescue Unit and was taken into Thunder Bay Police custody.
City police said a firearm seized at the scene turned out to be a replica.
They identified the accused as Morris Wayne Hogan.
He is also charged with armed robbery, possession of a controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, three counts of pointing a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Hogan has been remanded into custody pending his next court date.
