GREENSTONE, Ont. -- A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged after allegedly fleeing into the bush following a highway crash involving a motorcyclist.

Emergency responders were called to a crash scene on Highway 11 at Kenogamisis Dam Road just before 9 a.m. Sunday, after an eastbound car collided with a westbound motorcyclist who was leading a group of three others.

The man driving the motorcycle was taken to Geraldton District Hospital and subsequently transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Following the crash, the driver of the car fled into bushes. The OPP emergency response team and K-9 units were brought in for the search. The suspect was arrested after a sighting from another motorist.

The 22-year-old Geraldton man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, driving while impaired and failure to remain at the scene. He is to appear in court via video from the OPP detachment in Greenstone on Monday.

The highway was closed for about seven hours.
