THUNDER BAY - A 30-year-old man has been charged with one count of possessing child pornography following a cyber crime investigation that began in the spring.
Nithin Puthiya Veettil appeared in Thunder Bay bail court on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and was officially read his charge.
Police began their investigation on May 7 after learning suspected child pornography was being downloaded by a local internet user, according to a media release issued Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Police identified a suspect and on Tuesday, Oct. 20 executed a search warrant in the 400-block of Hodder Avenue.
During the search, police seized an electronic device that contained images of child pornography. The accused was arrested without incident.
Several other electronic devices were seized and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
A court-ordered publication ban is in effect for this case. Veettil is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 28.
