No injuries were reported following an early morning area house fire.

Residents of the Shuniah home woke up after hearing the fire alarm and found flames in the living room ceiling area around a chimney. After trying to douse the flames, A resident of the home called 911.

Fire crews responded to the house on Cedar Bay Road and were quickly able to put it out, keeping damage to a minimum.

The resident, along with three dogs and a cat, all made it out safely.

It is believed the cause was the improper installation of the chimney.

Shuniah Fire Department Chief Blair Arthur said the working smoke alarm and fire extinguisher that the resident used were the main reasons this fire had a positive outcome.
