UPDATE: Man faces 43 charges relating to voyeurism, making and possessing child pornography

City police have charged a 42-year-old man following voyeurism and making child pornography investigation involving more than 300 victims.

THUNDER BAY — A 42-year-old man facing a raft of charges related to voyeurism, and making and possessing child pornography will remain in custody following a court appearance on Friday morning.

Brent Mehagan of Thunder Bay was arrested by Thunder Bay police on Thursday, Dec. 3, and is facing 43 charges. Police say the incidents involve more than 300 victims which occurred at various locations across the city. 

Mehagan appeared briefly in court on Friday morning, Dec. 4, in Thunder Bay and was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court next on Monday, Dec. 7.

He faces 15 counts of voyeurism sexual purpose, 14 counts of making child pornography and 14 counts of possession of child pornography.

A court-ordered publication is in place to protect the identities of complainants and witnesses involved and a separate ban prevents the publication of information and evidence. 

Police say the charges are not related to physical touching, according to a police news release issued Friday.

Police arrested a Thunder Bay man Thursday evening in connection to an investigation involving alleged voyeurism and making child pornography.

Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Major Crimes and Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Brent MEHAGAN, 42, of Thunder Bay in the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 3. He faces 43 charges relating to Voyeurism, Making Child Pornography, and Possession of Child Pornography.

Incidents involved more than 300 victims and occurred at various public locations in the City of Thunder Bay. Investigators continue to work to identify and notify victims. The arrest took place prior to the completion of these notifications in an effort to prevent further victimization.

Charges are not related to incidents involving physical touching.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is not identifying specific incident locations at this time. This is in an effort to protect the ongoing investigation and to allow investigators to better assess the quality of tips they receive from the public.

MEHAGAN is scheduled to appear for bail on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.
