Man in serious condition following Balmoral collision

Balmoral Street reopened after police conduct investigation into single motor vehicle collision that sent 55-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries.

THUNDER BAY - One man is in serious condition following a single motor vehicle collision that closed Balmoral Street Wednesday morning.

Thunder Bay Police said in a media release that a pickup truck was travelling north on Balmoral Street near Beverly Street at approximately 3:08 a.m. when it struck a hydro pole, left the road, and rolled over.

Police, Thunder Bay Fire, and EMS responded to the scene. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews freed the 55-year-old driver from the vehicle and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver was the only occupant of the pickup truck and no other vehicles were involved.

Balmoral Street remained closed until 12:20 p.m. as the Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit conducted an investigation.

During the road closure, police stopped a vehicle that drove around the barricades and through the scene. The driver was charged with disobeying a sign.

Police advise drivers to always obey road closure signs and barricades, as roads are often closed following collisions to allow police to conduct a thorough investigation of the scene. Disobeying road closure signs can endanger officer’s lives and can compromise the scene of the investigation.
