Man injured in north end shooting

Man taken to hospital after shooting incident on Machar Avenue on Friday night.

THUNDER BAY – A man has suffered unknown injuries after a shooting incident in the city's north end Friday night.

Police responded to a disturbance at a home in the 100s block of Machar Avenue around 8:40 p.m. Friday. Paramedics with Superior North were also dispatched to the scene, and transported the victim to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment.

The extent of those injuries was not yet known.

The Thunder Bay Police Service said its Major Case Unit was involved in the investigation, and that "investigators do not believe this was a random event."

The TBPS asked the public to avoid the area Saturday as investigators continued to process the scene.

Police also appealed to anyone with information or video footage in the area during the evening of Friday, Jan. 14 to contact the department or Crime Stoppers.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to reports of a disturbance at a residential address in the 100 block of Machar Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14.

While en route, police learned an individual may have been the victim of a shooting. Paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene.

Paramedics transported the male to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

A scene has been established and a police presence remains in the area. The public is asked to avoid the area while investigators process the scene.

Members of the Major Case Unit are now involved in the ongoing investigation. Investigators do not believe this was a random event.
