Police charge 18-year-old in Northwood assault

THUNDER BAY – Police have charged an 18-year-old with aggravated assault in connection with an assault in the Northwood area early Friday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Limbrick Street and Redwood Avenue just before 3 a.m. on Friday, responding to reports of an injured male.

Police say they located an adult male who had sustained serious injuries, believed to be the result of an assault. He was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Officers arrested Desmond Jarrell Keewaykapow, 18, of Thunder Bay in connection with the incident Friday afternoon, charging him with aggravated assault.

The victim and the accused were known to one another, police said.

The TBPS major crimes unit is now involved in the investigation.

Keewaykapow appeared in bail court on Saturday, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance on Monday, May 3.
