Marathon assault victim dies

MARATHON, Ont. -- The 20-year-old victim of an assault in Marathon has died.

The OPP said Wade Hendry-Lee Otiquam-Joy died in hospital late Wednesday afternoon, one day after he was found unconscious at a residence on Stevens Avenue. He had been airlifted to Thunder Bay for further medical care prior to his death.

Provincial police had arrested 45-year-old Sheldon Finlayson and charged him with aggravated assault. He remains in custody. Police did not say whether charges would be upgraded.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Toronto on Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
