MARATHON, Ont. -- There was a good sized crowd on hand Tuesday evening to find out more about the future of the Legion in Marathon.

Similar to other Branches across Canada, Marathon's Legion has fallen on hard financial times in recent years. Fading membership has also been an issue.

But after Tuesday night's meeting, President Bill McCutcheon is optimistic the Legion will overcome these issues.

“We were very happy to see the people coming out,” McCutcheon said during an interview with CFNO Radio. “There were a lot of good ideas shared and it looks like we’re going to end up with a number of new members.

“As far as I’m concerned the future looks kind of rosey.”

At last month's General Meeting there were not enough members who showed up to elect a new executive.

However, after last night's public meeting, an Election of Officers was held.

McCutcheon was elected once again as president.

Denis St. Jean is the vice-president, John Rose will serve as second vice-president, Miriam McCutcheon is the secretary and sergeant at arms is Guy House with Harold Griggs the deputy sergeant at arms.
