THUNDER BAY - The public will have an opportunity to ask questions regarding issues relating to the city’s finances and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thunder Bay Mayor Bill Mauro is holding a virtual town hall meeting Wednesday evening.
The meeting will consist of two presentations on the city’s debt situation as well as the financial impact of the pandemic.
“I’ve talked a little bit about this over the course of a year or year and a half. I want that to be presented to the public so they get a sense of the snapshot of the city’s position on our debt,” Mauro said.
“The other part about the COVID situation and city’s expenses revenues for 2020 and 2021 to actually show we’ve come through this quite well, which is a good thing and not a surprise to me.”
A question and answer session will also be held at the end of the town hall. Some questions have already been submitted on the topics included in the agenda, but members of the public can also submit questions during the session.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and be approximately an hour and a half in length.
“It’s an opportunity sometimes to get a little longer message out to the community than sometimes is the case at a council meeting or dealing with conventional media,” Mauro said of holding virtual town halls.
“I think it provides that ability. The public appreciates them as well. They have an opportunity to get their specific piece in. It’s an opportunity for people to be heard on some items on some particular items as well.”
The town hall meeting will be streamed on the city’s website, as well as on Shaw Spotlight Channel 10, BlueCurve Ch105, or Tbaytel TV Channel 110.
