Mauro visits Dorion fish hatchery for first time since becoming minister

Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Bill Mauro paid his first visit to the Dorion Fish Culture Station Tuesday.

Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Bill Mauro paid his first visit to the Dorion Fish Culture Station Tuesday.

Mauro, who also serves as the MPP for the Thunder Bay – Atikokan riding, has visited other such facilities in the region during his two years as minister, but Tuesday was his first visit of the Dorion site.

He says touring the hatchery has been on his to-do list for a while now.

The facility stocks hundreds-of-thousands of trout and splake every year in an effort to rehabilitate and restore native fish populations.

Mauro says there's no one-size-fits-all solution, when it comes to protecting Ontario's fish and this was an opportunity for him to further educate himself on the process that's in place.
