A substance abuse treatment facility and energy will be the mayor’s focus as he and other councillors head to a provincial conference this weekend.
Mayor Keith Hobbs, city manager Tim Commisso and five councillors will head to Toronto for the Ontario Good Roads conference Sunday. The event, running from Sunday to Wednesday attracts roughly 2,300 delegates and will be attended by the leaders of every political party including Premier Dalton McGuinty.
For municipal leaders, the conference provides an opportunity to meet one on one with provincial ministers. City manager Tim Commisso and five members of council, including the Mayor, will be attending the conference. Keith Hobbs said their key meeting will be with Energy Minister Brad Duguid. Hobbs said he will be bringing a loud, clear message for a Made-in-Northwestern Ontario energy strategy.
The Thunder Bay delegation will meet with seven provincial ministers including the minister of health. Hobbs said the focus of that meeting will be a push for a substance abuse treatment facility in the city. Meetings are also set up with the leaders of the opposition parties.
Due to the large number of councillor heading to the conference, Monday’s council meeting is cancelled.
