THUNDER BAY — As he continues to recover from successful surgery, Mayor Ken Boshcoff is praising the skills of the doctors and staff in the cardiac catheterization lab at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
"I'm coming along well. We are so blessed to have the cardio teams we have here," he said Monday. "As a direct beneficiary, all up and down that hallway I was seeing people who probably would not be around had we not made that commitment to the regional hospital years ago."
Boshcoff, who's now resting at home, said he had two surgeries over a period of a couple of weeks after an annual checkup showed some blockages in his coronary arteries.
He said his prognosis is good.
On Facebook, the mayor announced last week that the procedures went "swimmingly," adding "We are so fortunate to have such services right here in the Northwest. Professional staff were just stellar."
Boshcoff, who's 76, told Newswatch he hopes to resume some of the duties of his office in about two weeks, but intends to strictly follow doctors' orders to avoid stress.
"Apparently there's something with my job that may involve that," he said.
The mayor said he may take extra care to rest up for some critical votes "just to make sure I can get through some of the stalling whirlpools we've encountered on some issues."
Councillor Trevor Giertuga is Thunder Bay's acting deputy mayor for the current month.
