SYDNEY, N.S. – A quick start was all Krista McCarville needed to even her record at 1-1 on Day 2 of the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The veteran Thunder Bay curler opened with a single with the hammer in the first end of her match against Quebec’s Gabrielle Lavoie rink, then reeled off steals of one in the second and third ends and took two more in the fourth.

The 5-0 lead was more than enough to secure the win, coming on the heels of Saturday’s 6-4 loss to Ontario champion Rachel Homan.

McCarville, whose team includes lead Sarah Potts, second Jen Gates and third Kendra Lilly, went on to defeat Team Quebec 8-2. Lavoie’s squad dropped to 0-2 at the event, being staged at Centre 200 in Sydney, N.S.

In other Draw 3 action, B.C.’s Sarah Wark edged Manitoba’s Tracy Fleury 7-5, Alberta’s Chelsea Carey edged Nova Scotia’s Jill Brothers 6-5 and Homan stayed perfect with a 12-4 trouncing of Jenine Bodner’s team from Nunavut.

McCarville is back in action on Sunday night against Carey, who defeated her in the final of the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
