KAMLOOPS – Krista McCarville struggled Monday against New Brunswick’s Andrea Kelly, but like she did in last year’s 1-2 Page Playoff, she found a way to pull out the win.

This time around, she didn’t need a steal, though like a year ago in Thunder Bay, she did need an extra end to knock off the always tough Kelly’s foursome.

McCarville, who curls out of Fort William Curling Club, scored two in the extra end to edge Kelly 8-6, putting herself in position to get the win with a pair in the ninth that gave her a 6-5 lead. Equally important, she managed to hold Kelly to a single with hammer in the 10th, putting her in the driver’s sat coming home.

The Thunder Bay skip and her teammates, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly of Sudbury, improved to 3-1, with a late draw scheduled for Monday night against 1-2 Wild Card No. 3, Meghan Walter.

McCarville and Kerry Galusha of the Northwest Territories are tied atop the Pool B table, with 3-1 records. Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones and Ontario’s Rachel Homan, who tangle on in Monday’s afternoon draw, are both a 2-1.

In Pool A, Nova Scotia’s Christine Black’s team handed B.C.’s Clancy Grandy her team’s first loss of the week, an 8-2 triumph that included a steal of three in the fifth. Thunder Bay’s Karlee Everist is the second on Black’s team.
