McKellar Place residents assured they will not have to pay double rent

THUNDER BAY -- Residents at McKellar Place are breathing a sigh of relief.

THUNDER BAY -- Residents at McKellar Place are breathing a sigh of relief.

Several tenants were worried they would be forced into paying rent twice in January when they make the move from McKellar Place to the new supportive housing facility run by St. Joseph's Care Group.

Nearly 60 tenants at McKellar are expected to make the move to the new 132-bed Sister Leila Greco Apartments.

Kay Lacey, 88, was one of those concerned residents. They were informed last week that they would have to pay a full month's rent at McKellar, regardless of which day they moved over to the new facility.

Lacey toured the Greco Apartments on Friday, and was told that St. Joseph's has come up with a solution.

They will only have to pay the first month's rent at the new facility, rather than first and last month's rent.

The media is being given a tour of the new Leila Greco apartments Tuesday.
