A medical episode has been determined as the cause of a major two-vehicle crash at a busy south side intersection Wednesday morning.
The collision happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Arthur and Edward Streets when a pickup truck travelling west on Arthur Street struck a light standard pole in the northwest corner of the intersection, crossed the sidewalk and then struck a parked car in the Safeway parking lot.
In a media release, the Thunder Bay Police Service said the 46-year-old man driving a pickup truck experienced a medical event, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The man experienced minor injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to hospital to treat the medical issue.
A section of Arthur Street between Edward and Brown streets was closed throughout Wednesday afternoon. The crash also knocked down a traffic light pole, requiring officers to control the intersection.
Venting for the Safeway gas bar pumps were also damaged.
