THUNDER BAY -- The Northern Ontario School of Medicine's Dietetic Internship Program has received national accreditation status from the Dietitians of Canada.
The internship program was founded in 2007. Julie Statiwi is the Thunder Bay site coordinator and she says 12 interns are accepted every year. That includes four from Thunder Bay.
Statiwi says since the program was founded, 99 dietitians have been trained here with 74 per cent of them deciding to stay in Northern Ontario.
She says this has helped out our community as the need for services are very high.
Statiwi adds that she is pleased that the program met the Dietitians of Canada's nationally established standards.
The accreditation team says that NODIP students and preceptors felt engaged, supported, and grateful to be involved in the program.
