THUNDER BAY -- The future of the Thunder Bay Generating Station will be on the agenda at a high profile meeting to be held in Thunder Bay next month.

Mayor Keith Hobbs voiced his frustration Wednesday over the lack of information coming forward on the stalled conversion at the plant.

But Hobbs received a call from Energy Minister Chris Bentley Thursday, who now wants a sit down with the mayor.

Bentley is on record as saying that the switch from coal to natural gas has not been canceled, but is merely on hold.

The energy minister will now meet with the mayor, the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association and members of a local energy task force on Jan. 14 here in the city.

Members of the Ontario Power Authority, the agency that hit the so-called pause button on the project, will also be present. The OPA has faced a storm of criticism from regional politicians over that decision.

The agency believes it can supply the region with the power it needs without the local generating station.
