Mild weather has some motorists holding off on winter tire installation

THUNDER BAY – Mild Autumn weather means that winter tires aren’t top of mind for local motorists right now.

THUNDER BAY – Mild Autumn weather means that winter tires aren’t top of mind for local motorists right now.

According to a number of local auto shops, requests for winter tire installation are starting to ramp up but it’s still a bit slow right now.

Kal Tire’s assistant manager Mark Hahnle says people should get their tires changed before the snow beings to accumulate.

“If you wait until the snow flies it’s way harder to get in,” Hahnle told CKPR Radio during an interview Thursday. “Right now we have a two-three hour average wait, when the snow gets here it can be an all-day wait sometimes.”

There’s even more incentive to switch all-season tires to winter tires this season, as the province has announced that drivers who make the seasonal switch should see savings on their insurance.

Those insurances savings come Jan. 1.
