Workers at a south side office building walked into a wet Monday morning as their office spaces had flooded over the weekend.
Ontario Native Women’s Association director Betty Kennedy, with offices at 212 Miles Street, said a second floor washroom leaked water into the lower levels of the building causing extensive damage to documents dating back to the beginning of ONWA’s 39-year history.
"All of our documents downstairs were affected because the water was obviously dripping from the ceiling and so for the last couple of days we’ve been working hard to minimize the damage to our documents and to retain what we can," Kennedy said.
"And we have extensive documents so it’s been a major problem and everything was soaked."
Kennedy said she expects ONWA to be offering full services at its offices in a week.
In the meantime, some services will be offered off-site and others will be maintained through more visits to clients so that ONWA can still offer all of its services. Documents are being salvaged by ONWA while more important ones are currently being restored.
