Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle appears confident a new energy rate structure will help grow the Northern economy.

Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle appears confident a new energy rate structure will help grow the Northern economy.

Starting next year, companies that create jobs and make a large investment could qualify for a reduced industrial electricity rate.

Gravelle said the initiative is all about attracting new investment to the region.

“(The energy rate structure will) also to help companies that are looking at expanding their operations and creating new jobs to be able to qualify as well,” he said during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“It’s a program that will fit the needs of industry in the province certainly, but very specifically in Northern Ontario.”
