The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is advising the public to avoid the Sakwite Lake area northeast of Fort Frances this week.
It plans to start a fire near the Korpi Road on Wednesday in order to regenerate the forest.
The area, about six kilometres east of Highway 502, was the scene of a blowdown caused by a severe storm.
The MNRF says that for safety reasons, people should stay away from the area before the fire is ignited, as well as post-ignition, due to smoky conditions and fire-suppression traffic.
On Friday, MNRF crews successfully conducted a prescribed burn in the Wind Lake area of the ministry's Sioux Lookout district.
The forest there was damaged by a tornado in 2009. A prescribed burn was also conducted near Wind Lake in 2014, but did not include the entire area affected by the storm.
