Mishkeegogamang First Nation man charged with second-degree murder

MISHKEEGOGAMANG FIRST NATION, Ont. - A man arrested in connection to the death of a 17-year-old woman in Mishkeegogamang First Nation has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Jerry Fox, 32, of Mishkeegogamang First Nation was arrested following a serious assault that took place in the community on May 1 and he has now been charged with second-degree murder.  

Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service members responded to reports of an assault at a Henry Street residence on the morning of May 1 just after 7 a.m. and requested assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police.

A woman, later identified as 17-year-old Lynnora Mikenak, also known as Lynorra Lawson, was found at the scene with serious injuries.

Mikenak was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died as a result of her injuries.

Fox remains in custody and will make his next court appearance on May 14 for a bail hearing.
