MNR confirmed 40 new forest fires during weekend

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources reported having a very active weekend for forest fires in the Northwest. Officials with the MNR say nearly 40 new fires were confirmed over the two days, 24 of those having started on Saturday.

Officials with the MNR say nearly 40 new fires were confirmed over the two days, 24 of those having started on Saturday. 

Several of the new fires are said to be in the Thunder Bay and Nipigon districts.  

However, the MNR says none of the fires are causing any major concern at this time. 

Currently there are 63 fires burning in the Northwest region.
