THUNDER BAY -- Ontario’s push to make alcohol available at more locations is raising concerns at the District Health Unit.
A new report on alcohol consumption released by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit last week showed that nearly half of adults aged 19 and over reported having more than four or five drinks on a single occasion at least once per month.
That amount is excessive and can greatly impact a person's health, according to the health unit's Low Risk Drinking Guidelines.
Thunder Bay currently has wine sold at two city grocery stores.
Health Promotion Planner Sheena Albaneese says making wine more readily available won't help the situation.
The changes to wine sale locations will take effect as soon as this fall.
