THUNDER BAY -- The city's active transportation plan will grow again this year after approval from city council Monday night.

Around 120 kilometres have been added to the city since 2008. This year will see Hodder Avenue and Hudson Avenue added to the list.

Those lanes will also see a half-metre buffer to separate bicycles from vehicles. There will also be improvements to Arundel Street, with a bike lane and multi-use trail.

On-street parking will be removed with the exception of a major apartment complex that raised objections to the idea. The city will also be enforcing its bylaw that no motor vehicles should be used on the multi-use trail, a problem that has come up in several areas including people parking vehicles on new trails along Golf Links Road.

It will also be the first year that a bike-controlled sensor will be used at the Victoria Avenue and Vickers Street intersection.
