The city is looking at a pair of unexpected, flood-related repair bills.
Darrell Matson, Thunder Bay’s manager of infrastructure operation, on Wednesday said damage to the Mountdale boat launch and a trail along the Neebing/McIntyre floodway in the city’s east end appears to be the result of the May 28 storm and several subsequent rainfalls.
One came as a public complaint, the other uncovered as part of routine maintenance.
Matson said the trail, which runs along the river adjacent to the Atlantic Avenue Water Treatment Plant and the Slovak Legion, will be fixed, but couldn’t say how much it will cost.
“We’ll initiate repairs, do a damage assessment as soon as we can arrange the appropriate resources to do such,” he said.
Matson said the boat launch suffered damage to its driveway, mostly gravel and erosion issues, as well as a build-up of sediment.
“Again, most of those areas will be re-inspected, an evaluation will be done and repairs will be initiated,” he said.
Matson added it likely won’t be the last of the weather-related damage attributed to the recent slate of rain.
“We expect that as time goes on a few more of these areas may surface. It could be along the trail. We do continue with our inspections. However, these are ones that have been reported by the public about a week-and-a-half ago,” he said referring to the boat launch.
