THUNDER BAY – Robin Faye has a much greater appreciation for the stress of motherhood once she had kids of her own.
The mother of three said Mother’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on the responsibility of parenthood and exactly how stressful it can be to raise children.
“Once I saw what it was like I realized my mother must have loved me, with what she had to go through and what I put her through,” she said with a laugh.
“I’m a lot better of a daughter know than before I had kids.”
All around the world on Sunday mothers are being honoured and recognized for their love and care, with many local mothers being treated to brunch, flowers and other tokens of affection.
It was a special occasion for Alex Habib, as he was able to spend the day with his own mother as well as the mother of his newborn child.
His mother flew in for a two-week visit that coincides with Mother’s Day.
“It’s a special day for me because I’ve appreciated my own mother a lot more and I see my wife giving it all day, every day,” he said. “It’s a first for both at the same time. I’m definitely a happy man.”
Even though Trista Williams was away from her mother, she was still able to celebrate a day early with a Saturday brunch.
”She spent so much time raising me and showing me life. Now that I don’t live with her I still want to honour her with what I do, especially on Mother’s Day,” Williams said.
Jerry Gagnon, who was born with cerebral palsy, knows his mother made tremendous sacrifices in order for him to grow up.
He said he couldn’t ask for a better mother.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my mother,” he said. “Between her nurturing, loving and taking me to other cities to hospitals I lived and I’m very grateful. She is good like that every day to me.”
