Police have charged the driver of a vehicle that struck a four-year-old girl Thursday evening.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service say they responded to the auto-pedestrian collision just before 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Bay and Algoma Streets.

Police say the vehicle was stopped at the red light on Bay Street facing west. When the light turned green, the driver began to turn left onto Algoma Street, but struck a four-year-old girl who was crossing street at intersection with her 27-year-old father.

The father tried to pull the child out of the way of the vehicle, but she was struck on the shin and the tire ran over the father’s foot.

The driver stopped to provide assistance. Ambulance attended, and both victims were cleared and released by paramedics at the scene.

The 49-year-old female driver was charged with failing to yield to pedestrian.
