MPP renews call for provincial drug strategy for First Nations

The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River is again calling for a provincial drug strategy to help First Nations dealing with rampant prescription drug abuse.

The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River is again calling for a provincial drug strategy to help First Nations dealing with rampant prescription drug abuse.

On Tuesday in Queen's Park, the NDP’s Sarah Campbell pointed to recent reports about Oxycontin addiction affecting up to 70 per cent of the adult population of Cat Lake First Nation.

She added that the situation is not going away, making it even more imperative for the McGuinty Liberals to take action.

Health Minister Deb Matthews said she's convened a special panel to look at prescription drug abuse across the province.

She added that First Nation communities are well represented on that panel.
