The carnation has long been a symbol of hope for those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, and on Wednesday the MS Society launched its 35th Annual Mother's Carnation Campaign.

The fundraiser event kicked off Wednesday afternoon with a bouquet presentation to their 2011 MS Mother of the Year, Judy Hole.

Hole was diagnosed with the neurological disease five years ago. While she admits it can often be difficult for her and her family, Hole remains positive and confident that a cure is on the horizon.

Women are three times more likely than men to develop MS.

Mother's Day carnations will be on sale starting Thursday, and the sales will run until Saturday outside Intercity, Arthur Street Marketplace, Zellers, and all LCBO and Beer Store locations.
