THUNDER BAY -- The city's reprieve from frigid winter weather didn't last long.

Environment Canada on Thursday afternoon issued another extreme cold warning for Thunder Bay, forecasting a "multi-day episode of very cold wind chills with wind chills as cold as - 45C overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

The weather service said the arctic air mass is expected to remain entrenched over the region through the weekend and into early next week.

The city spent much of last weekend in an extreme cold warning as nearly bonechilling winds whipped through the region.

Environment Canada advises that extreme cold puts everyone at risk and that people going outside should dress warmly and in layers, recommending the outer layer to be wind resistant.

The Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay issued a statement that buses will be cancelled for the day if wind chill  is - 40C or below at 6 a.m. If that happens on Friday, high schools will be open but scheduled exams will be moved to Jan. 30.
