THUNDER BAY — A long-vacant lot on Algoma Street could become the location for a multi-storey apartment building.

The City of Thunder Bay has received an application for a building permit for the property at 84 Algoma Street South, at the intersection with Ambrose Street.

The developer proposes to put up a five-storey, 18-unit structure where an automotive service station previously operated.

Although the permit application is still under review at city hall, the property is zoned Downtown Neighbourhood.

That's a designation that allows for multi-unit residential use.

The estimated cost of the development is $7.5 million.

Newswatch has been unable to reach the proponent for comment yet, but a construction trailer and an excavator are already on-site.
