(KENORA, ON) - Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), are on the scene of a motor vehicle collision that has closed Highway 17a.

On Monday January 23, 2017 just after 5:00 am police were notified of a motor vehicle collision involving multiple tractor trailer units (TTU) on Highway 17a, just west of the Highway 17 east junction.

It was reported that at three east bound TTU’s had collided and were fully engulfed in flames, blocking the highway.  Police attended and four men were transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Several other involved people remained at the scene, uninjured.   The investigation is continuing.

The highway will remain closed for most of the day as the investigation continues and clean up begins.  Travellers are asked to re-route through the City of Kenora.
