THUNDER BAY — City police arrested an Ottawa man after a violent incident in a north-side residential neighbourhood Tuesday night.

Officers responded to several calls about a disturbance in the 200 block of Sequoia Drive.

A woman reported she had gone to a residence to pick up another woman. When that individual got into her vehicle, a man from the same house approached the car, smashed a window, and dragged the passenger back into the residence.

Police breached the door of the house so they could check on the welfare of the victim.

They found her, unharmed, in the basement, and located the suspect hiding in an upstairs bedroom.

According to a Thunder Bay Police news release, he was "uncooperative" with officers, but was eventually taken into custody.

The man, 30 years old, is charged with two counts of assault, uttering threats, mischief, resisting arrest and breach of recognizance.
