The Thunder Bay and District Health Unit says recent cases of mumps and measles should serve as reminders for everyone to get their vaccine shots.

In Quebec, about 650 people have contracted the measles since January.

Darlene Binette is the manager of infectious disease programs at the District Health Unit. She said it doesn't take much for those travelling to pass the disease along, especially if you're not vaccinated.

The respiratory disease is passed from one person to another through things like coughing and sneezing.

Binette said two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine are enough to protect someone from both infectious viruses.

The health unit or your health-care provider can administer the vaccines.
