THUNDER BAY -- A 23-year-old man faces a charge of second-degree murder following a fatal incident at an apartment complex Wednesday.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed that they had formally charged Randel Wabasse, 23, of Thunder Bay, with second-degree murder and breach of probation. The charges follow reports of a stabbing at 122 Cumberland Street South, an apartment complex known to many as Andras Court, just after 8 a.m.

"Unfortunately in the residence there was a severely injured male victim that was discovered. He was rushed to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and unfortunately he was pronounced dead," Thunder Bay Police executive officer Chris Adams said of the scene police attended Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Adam Nicodemus Beaver, 46, of Thunder Bay.

A post mortem exam of the victim was conducted in Thunder Bay and the cause of death is not being released at this time.

The accused remains in custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail and will make a court appearance on Tuesday, May 20.

A second person arrested by police immediately after the reported stabbing has since been released. That person was not identified and has not been charged.

It's not the first time Andras Court, a facility operated by the Thunder Bay District Housing Corporation, has been in the news. In October 2011 a man was arrested and faced several assault charges after a stabbing spree injured four people.
